PlaYful Learning at the farm
After filling our puku with energy boosting kai we were ready for our adventures to begin. We started in the paddock with the flying fox and climbing the avocado tree. Then there was a story about a little old lady, a fox, a tiger, some freshly grown kai, an ogre, and a rolling pumpkin. Lauren was the story teller and everyone helped create the characters and sing along to the songs. I wonder if any of the tamariki are retelling this story to you this evening?
Then it was time for our big adventure. We were feeling brave, courageous, and adventurous, ready to push our physical and mental abilities. We clambered over the fence and it was all downhill from there, literally downhill. It didn’t take us long to discover the best way to navigate this was sliding on our bottoms. Avoiding trees, sticks and each other, we managed to reach the bottom of this steep and massive hill. Coming down was one thing, but getting back up was an entirely new challenge. Kapa Rāhina (Monday forest/farm group) is an amazing team, and they are experts at working together and helping each other. Camaraderie was the only way to get to the top, and Kapa Rāhina nailed it!!! Lauren and I were so proud of the kindness, encouragement, and their innate ability to work together. At one point, some of us even had to get a rope to help pull ourselves to the top of the hill.
